Here is a blog created especially for my final major project at college.

My theme is science fiction, futuristic and technology and I am going to document my progress throughout the project!

The theme for my college project was science fiction, futuristic, and technology. So I started off looking at circuit boards as I thought it would be a really good idea for a print on my dress!

These types of circuit board pictures really inspired my so i came up with a screen print idea. However it looked too complicated for a screen print so I thought I'd develop it later.

I then thought it would be interesting to open up an old video player to see what was inside for my primary research. I thought it was so good and found it so interesting seeing all the electronics and components.

I also took out the circuit board and tied it into my book
i put tracing paper over the top and rubbed a pencil over the top to see what would happen and it was a really weird and interesting design. So I put it onto magic touch paper and transferred it onto calico and this is what it turned out like:
I wanted to look and see if i could find any more patterns I could use from my research so I looked into science fiction. I looked at books, google images, and films.
This is a science fiction image I got from google images. I got a lot of inspiration from this as I found a lot of shapes in the background.
Here are some of the patterns I took from the image.
This is another image that gave me ideas for pattern
I found out about an artist called H.R.Geiger. He paints really unusual alien/science fiction work and it has inspired me to create a couple of patterns. However I think that his work is really dark and I don't think it would relate to the customer I've recently chosen: Susie Lau.
This is the patterns I have developed from the artists work.

These are other patterns I have done. I took inspiration from vintage robots and made details into repeat patterns.
I thought it would be a good idea to look into the 1960's space age as it fits with my theme and I thought it would be interesting to see a different side of futuristic. I thought the shapes were really interesting and I got an idea for a design.
Here is the customer board I did. I chose Susie Lau as I think she's very influential in fashion and blogging and her style is very versatile so I would have fun designing for her as she would try out pretty much anything.
Here are a few designs I have started taking inspiration from robots and star wars. I thought the rounded shoulders from the robot would look good if I developed some sort of shoulder pad on my design.
At first I looked into headwear futuristic trends but after looking and trying out different designs I thought I would look into necklace trends instead.
Here are a couple of head designs I tried out for my accessory. However I didn't feel they would work with my dress designs.
So then I looked into neck wear trends and I got a lot of ideas for designs for collars and necklaces.
I wanted to try something with metal like a metal collar or wire hexagons in a collar shape. However after talking with someone I realized it would be very hard to do so I started doing samples with material.
I first started with disappearing muslin and angelina fibre with stitched hexagons over the top. However the end result was flimsy so I had to think of something else.
I then tried with netting and angelina fibre. The result was a lot sturdier and I wanted to develop this further.
I tried again with netting and burnt organza with angelina fibre and stitched hexagon on the top. I thought it was really good but it felt too bulky so I decided to create a neck piece with netting and anelina fibre. But first I had to create a pattern.
I created a pattern and developed it a few times and tried out toiles on calico until I got the right shape and size.
I thought this shape was the best so I made a final toile and fastened it with hook and eyes. Then I made up a neck piece with netting and started embroidering.

This is the start of my embroidering on the neckpiece and it turned out really well.

I chose my final 6 designs and drew spec drawings for the design boards.
I had to develop a pattern piece from a lycra body for my top as I am wanting to use stretchy fabric. After I had done my pattern piece for my top it turned out like this, but the neckline wasn't high enough, so I had to develop it further.
After raising the neckline and adding a collar bit it turned out better and I realized that this was the right shape I wanted so I made it up in the final material.

This is my final top without a zip. The bralet fit really well after a lot of adjusting and I put on my skirt bit to create my final garment.
This is my final garment on a mannequin. I am really please with how it turned out and I feel it is made well.
As part of my marketing work, I had to create a lookbook and to do this I had to have a photoshoot. Here is the model Kate Marklew having her makeup done by beauty student Kirsten Middleton.
Here is one of the photographs from the shoot. I'm so pleased with the outcome. And now I have created my lookbook and finished all of my work :)
